FALMER IS GIVEN THE GO AHEAD...
Friday, 28th October 2005
At last, John
Prescott has given the news we have all been waiting for - its a
FALMER YES YES YES....
The morning the news was delivered in post format to the
club, and a further press release is expected from the Office of the
Deputy PM as well as the club, and those who were also against the
plans.
After 8 years campaigning for the project, we are delighted
to says its a
YES...
FALMER MARCH 2005 TODAY...
Monday, 26th September 2005
Martin Perry has announced
that he believes the Falmer decision is imminent. He is urging all fans
of the club to come along to tonight's march to show Prescott how
important the decision is. It is due to get under way around 5:30pm from
Madeira Drive, with thousands expected to take part in the march to the
Brighton centre.
Prescott will be watching, and has said he
knows the march is set to take place, and is due to make his decision in
the coming weeks.
The last march in 2004 saw ex-manager Micky
Adams attend to show his support. Steve Coppell will today be making an
appearance to also show his support.
If you are going to the march tonight, please
arrive around 5pm to ensure the march takes place on time. A report and
pictures from the previous march can be found from the
Falmer Main Menu.
PLANS FOR FALMER MARCH 2005...
Thursday, 01st September 2005
The following has been received from Tim
Carder, Chairman of the BHA Supporters Club about the Falmer March which
is due to take place this month. For information on last years march at
the Labour Party Conference, check out the
Falmer Archive here.
"I have this evening returned from a
meeting to confirm a March for Falmer along Brighton sea-front on
MONDAY, 26th SEPTEMBER, to coincide with the Labour Party Conference
which is in Brighton again this year. I'm sending this email out to
alert everyone in advance of the more organised publicity.
With the Falmer decision deadline on 31st October, THIS IS OUR LAST
CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We don't know if it will make a difference
but we cannot afford not to try, so PLEASE COME ALONG. BRING YOUR
FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, RELATIVES, NEIGHBOURS - AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN -
AND SPREAD THE WORD. Supporters of other clubs will be welcome. Colours,
placards, banners, etc are encouraged. REMEMBER, THIS IS THE LAST THING
YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IN THE SAGA THAT IS FALMER!
We will have flyers and posters available at the two home games between
then and 26th September (Sheffield United and Coventry) which you will
be able to collect from our campaign tables for the South and North
Stands. Please take them and distribute them yourselves so that as many
people as possible know. These will be available by email soon.
The format will be very similar to last year's march. Meet on Brighton
sea-front (Madeira Drive) to the east of the Palace Pier (by Volk's
Railway Station) at 5pm for a start at 5.30pm. The march will again
proceed to the conference at the Brighton Centre where a rally will be
held. This year, though, we will disperse immediately after the rally
rather than march back to the start.
Remember, there will be no parking in Madeira Drive itself. Allow plenty
of time and use buses if you can. A £2.60 Saver ticket will allow you
unlimited travel all day.
PLEASE TURN UP. DON'T THINK IT WON'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE - IT JUST MIGHT."
RUMOUR: FALMER ANNOUNCEMENT ANY DAY?
Tuesday, 30th August 2005
Talksport this morning made an announcement
that John Prescott, the Deputy PM, will be announcing his decision at a
conference soon. They indicated that it could be made at the Labour
Party Conference which will be taking place next month, however the
government does not make any formal announcements on these decisions at
party conferences. We also know that the confirmation will initially be
in the form of a letter sent to all interested parties.
When the club played Hull city 10 days ago,
fans delivered a postcard to John Prescott's constituency offices. More
information on this can be
found here.
FALMER CAMPAIGN GOES TO HULL
Tuesday, 16th August 2005
Brighton & Hove Albion’s plans for a new
Community Stadium at Falmer, which would secure its future, are in
jeopardy.
Despite an overwhelming show of public support, a report by a Planning
Inspector dismissed the proposals, on grounds of lack of National
Interest and that part of the site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty. The final decision though now rests with the Deputy Prime
Minister, John Prescott. He has indicated that his make-or-break
decision will be published by 31 October.
Quite simply, without Falmer, there can be no Brighton & Hove Albion.
Why? Because their present temporary home (for a Championship football
team) is a 7,000 capacity athletics stadium - income is capped and
ongoing losses are the inevitable result.
PRESS RELEASE:
Continuing their campaign for
a new stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion supporters will be delivering a
giant 4’ by 3’ postcard to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Constituency HQ
on Saturday 20 August at 12.30pm. [430 Holderness Road, Hull, HU9 3DW –
opposite Westcott Street].
Chairman of the Falmer For All Campaign, Paul Samrah, said “As the
Albion are playing Hull City in their new KC Stadium this Saturday, we
thought we would take the opportunity to deliver a postcard to Mr
Prescott from the people of Brighton & Hove. Very soon, the Deputy Prime
Minister will be deciding whether our City can have a stadium of its own
- at Falmer. Every great City needs a stadium – it is vital for the
community and for Brighton & Hove Albion. Our future is in Mr Prescott’s
hands.
OLYMPICS BOOST FOR FALMER
Tuesday, 12th July 2005
The
club have today reported that they believe that the Olympics, which has
been handed to London for 2012, could boost our chances of getting Falmer.
Just under a week ago, the International Olympic Committee announced that
London would be hosting the games, winning by just four votes against
Paris. Prime Minister Tony Blair called the win "a momentous day" for
Britain, however the club is hoping that John Prescott will give the go
ahead for Falmer as part of the promises made by the London Olympic bid
team.
Although the government has until the end of October to make a decision,
the club is hoping for an early decision - maybe as quick as the end of
this month! Martin Perry then believes the ground could be ready for 2008,
four years ahead of the games...
Back in 1948, The Goldstone played host to the Luxembourg V Afghanistan
game as part of the Olympics. Dick Knight said "We would love to welcome
the 2012 Olympics back to Brighton."
NO STADIUM, NO SIGNINGS
Tuesday, 14th May 2005
The season ended over a month ago, and despite a number of
financial gains the club have so far been unable to attract any new
players to the club. However, McGhee believes the failure to make any
progress in moving towards a permanent home is affecting the clubs hopes
of signing players.
"If I was sitting talking to strikers and players this
summer going into a 25,000 stadium, then it would be a different kettle of
fish," McGhee told the Brighton Argus. "There is no doubt in my mind if
we'd had a stadium we would have kept Dan Harding."
A number of rumours have been going around, including news
that Freddy Eastwood was to join the Albion. However, Southend Chairman
Geoffrey King has insisted that the 21 year old striker will not be going
anywhere! The latest transfer news is that McGhee is now looking at
Southampton striker Dexter Blackstock?
McGhee has since been talking to BBC SCR, and told them
that he will not pay 'over the odds'. He will only splash the cash on
players he believes are good value for money!
KNIGHT MAKES APPEAL TO PRESCOTT
Tuesday, 31st May 2005
After Albion fan Aaron Berry won the £250,000 price from
Coca Cola's Win A Player Competition for the club, Dick Knight has once
again made a plea to Prescott to give us a stadium!
"We'll get a new player and what we need now is a new
stadium for him to play in," Knight said. "I urge John Prescott to let us
have a real stadium so we can leave Withdean."
DEADLINE SET FOR DECISION
Friday, 20th May 2005
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has released a
deadline for the Falmer decision to be made. Under new government
guidelines, planning applications must now have a deadline when a decision
must be made by.
The date set for a decision on Falmer is the 30th October
2005. The club had initially released a statement after the reopened
inquiry stating they thought a decision would be made around this time.

MORE SEATS AVAILABLE AT WITHDEAN
Wednesday, 18th May 2005
Albion's application for an extra 2000 seats at Withdean
has finally been granted today by Brighton and Hove City Councils planning
committee. This verdict also means that we can continue to play at
Withdean until 2008.
Despite getting permission for the new seats, the club
cannot have them installed until a third park and ride location is found.
The Mill Road site is also now full to capacity during most games, meaning
an increase in parking in the no-go zone.
