Published on: Thursday, 28th July 2005

By: D. Snowball

Today, the Football League held a tribunal to decide how much Leeds should pay us for Dan Harding. Despite being out of contract when he joined the Yorkshire team, because of his age Leeds have to pay us compensation.

After the sale of Adam Virgo, Albion's top scorer and Player Of The Season for 04-05, fans are hoping that the amount Celtic paid for him will be used as a comparison in the fee for Harding...

By: D. Snowball

There is currently no official word from the club, however it appears that another friendly has been added - we are now due to play at Hastings on Monday, 7:45pm.

Due to the poor run of results at the moment, it seems that the club want a better result from a stronger team! We believe that McGhee wants to boost the teams confidence before the start of the new season where we will first play Derby...

ANOTHER PRE SEASON LOSS...

Published on: Thursday, 28th July 2005

By: D. Snowball

With just one more friendly game to be played this weekend, the Albion have so far notched up just as many losses than wins. Just like the game against Colchester, the team were beaten not by just a single goal from a player with a little luck, but by a number of goals from a team that were better! Don't start panicking yet, but if we cannot even get a draw from lower league teams, how are we ever going to survive another season in the Championship League?

The game didn't start too well, with Brighton going 1-0 down. Ex-Brighton player Iwelumo got Colchester a penalty after just three minutes...

The 57-year-old was already terminally ill with liver cancer, however after his death, this lead to heartbroken Virgo having second thoughts about leaving Brighton. It actually took a family conference to help him make up his mind...

MCGHEE PLEASED WITH WIN - BUT IS THAT ALL...

Published on: Monday, 18th July 2005

By: D. Snowball

McGhee was pleased tonight after we won 4-2 against Lewes - however its seems there is more to it than just a pleasing score! Two trialists took part in the game - Trinidad International central defender Brent Sanchoz and Argentinian striker Federico Turienzo both played 70 minutes.

28-Years-Old Brent has recently been released by relegated Dundee, and it seems that he could be making a move down south to join the team! Meanwhile, Turienzo who is only 22, has recently left Gimnasia La Plata in his homeland to try and make a break into European football...

FANS REPORT - WOBBLY AT WORTHING...

Published on: Thursday, 14th July 2005

By: Nick Turrell

With the exception of the young left back, Sam Rents (who played the whole game), Albion fielded a different team in each half. They started with CK-R up front alongside Leon, and the Coca Cola Kid certainly impressed. He got pulled and pushed around quite a bit without much protection from the ref, but certainly showed some promise and scored a cracking opening goal from 12-14 yards, when Leon picked him out with a neat pass..

An impressive 1550 fans turns out last night to watch the team in their first local friendly. The team previously played Le Havre at the weekend, losing 2-0. Despite the lack of goals that day, they have made up for it winning against Worthing United 4-3.

Jason Dodd also made an appearance at the game in the first half, after missing the game against Le Havre.

Even better news is that the Coke Cola Kid, Colin Kazim-Richards scored the opening goal in the 39th minute with a shot into the top of the net...

LE HAVRE WITH THE GDC - NEW FEATURE...

Published on: Tuesday, 12th July 2005

By: Piers Benjamin

Planes, Trains, Boats, Taxi's, Buses and Abandoned Cars!

Well this one really started on Thursday night when I had to retrieve one of our party from Heathrow in the evening, what with the bombings in London that day, we were not sure whether the flight from Glasgow would be running, but alas it was. So gave myself loads of time to get from Brighton to Heathrow and did the journey in under an hour, so another hour to kill. Lots of people with guns at the airport, but no real surprise. The flight landed but no sign of my mate, all the other passengers come out, but still no sign of her. Then after a wait she appears and finally admits that she was late as she waited at the wrong luggage carousel...

OLYMPIC BOOST FOR FALMER...

Published on: Tuesday, 12th July 2005

By: D.Snowball

The club have today reported that they believe that the Olympics, which has been handed to London for 2012, could boost our chances of getting Falmer.

Just under a week ago, the International Olympic Committee announced that London would be hosting the games, winning by just four votes against Paris. Prime Minister Tony Blair called the win "a momentous day" for Britain, however the club is hoping that John Prescott will give the go ahead for Falmer as part of the promises made by the London Olympic bid team...

We reported back in April that we would be sponsoring the '158 Grounds In One Week' trip to Withdean Stadium. The aim of the tour was to raise money for three charities, Macmillan Cancer, Mind (the mental health charity) and STRIPES (the Stafford Rangers supporters trust fund).

Ian Preston said "The tour went well and we were able to meet our target of 158 grounds in a (decimal) week but we incurred fairly large travel costs along the way..."

LE HAVRE MATCH PREVIEW...

Published on: Friday, 01st July 2005

By: D.Snowball

Le Havre ended the season with a 6-1 loss, despite hoping to finish on a more positive note! They finished the league in 17th place, and would have been relegated if they had just three less points. However, they have survived and will be playing another season in the French League Two.

Last season, Le Havre played a total of 38 games however they only won 11 of these. 9 were draws, but 18 losses ensured they would be fighting to stay up as mentioned above. The team who finished top of the league 'Nancy' won 21 of the 38 games, and completed the season with 71 points...
