Today, the Football League held a tribunal to decide how much Leeds should pay us for Dan Harding. Despite being out of contract when he joined the Yorkshire team, because of his age Leeds have to pay us compensation.

After the sale of Adam Virgo, Albion's top scorer and Player Of The Season for 04-05, fans are hoping that the amount Celtic paid for him will be used as a comparison in the fee for Harding.

Earlier in the day another tribunal was heard - Torquay wanted £300,000 for their 23-year-old striker, however the tribunal decided that Swansea will only have to pay a maximum of £110,000. After this announcement, fans were desperate to hear about Harding - and were hoping that we wouldn't be receiving the same bad news. North Stand Chat, the most popular Brighton message board was even displaying an error message about too many connections to the database after 5pm! Luckily, it was back online shortly after 6pm. Most fans agreed that anything above £500,000 would be seen as a good result...

Dan Harding, England U21

It has been decided that we will receive up to £850,000 from Leeds. £450,000 will definitely be received from Leeds, paid in two instalments. The first half must be paid immediately, however don't expect it to be here in time for the new season! The second half must be paid within 6 months.

The remaining amount will only be paid depending on circumstances. £150,000 could come in appearances - £50,000 will be paid for every 20 games he plays, up to a maximum of 60.

Another £150,000 will be payable if Leeds win promotion to the Premiership during Dan's 3 year contract, with another £100,000 if Dan gets an England cap.

If Leeds sell Dan, they must pay the club 20% of what they receive.

Initial reaction from the Brighton fans is mixed - some believe we should have received much more, while other feel it is a fair price considering he was out of contract. The Leeds fans feel more confident, saying it is a good price.

Harding has already taken part in Leeds pre-season friendly games, and is making a strong impact and good impression.

"It's been brilliant here," said Dan,  "I've come here and been made really welcome.

We revealed the date for the Harding tribunal five days before the official site - so you know which Brighton website to watch this coming season... Flying High, Probably the best Unofficial BHAFC website in the world!
