Fans were starting to worry that we would not sign anyone this summer, however this morning the news wire has been alive with news about former Southampton defender Jason Dodd - is he about to sign for The Albion?

Dodd was linked with Portsmouth where he had had a successful loan spell earlier in the season, however it now seems that subject to passing a medical, he is actually due to sign a one year deal with ourselves.

Both McGhee and Knight believe that he is in excellent condition, and has the experience of a high level of football which we need to bring to the team.

During his 16 year career at Southampton, Dodd has played an amazing 488 games. 400 of these have been at the top level before he was released by the club this summer.

This first signing is not going to be using any of the £250,000 price money that was won at the end of the season by a loyal fan. Aaron Berry of Worthing entered on the Coca Cola website everyday, to ensure the club did not miss out on the money.
