FANS
REPORT: BRIGHTON 1 - 1 COVENTRY, SAT 14 AUG 04
We
have this report from the game:
After the doom and
gloom of Tuesday night's game against Plymouth,
Saturday's match was
completely different - and the Albion had more
chances in the first
15 minutes than in the whole of that previous game.
I think a draw was a
fair result in the end. We certainly caused
Coventry some
problems - event to the extent that there was a hilarious
moment about 20
minutes in when all of their back four were shouting at
each other, and
Steve Staunton was trying to calm them all down.
Jake Robinson is a
courageous little lad: he did his best to lead the
line and always
looked like he might do something.
I take back what I
said about Darren Currie (well, for this game,
anyway). He
thoroughly deserved his man-of-the-match accolade. He held
the ball well, took
people on, passed it intelligently, and was always
a thorn in
Coventry's side. No surprise that it was a foul on him that
led to the free kick
from which Virgs blasted the 89th minute equaliser.
Molango, by then,
had been substituted, but he got so excited that he
was dancing on the
pitch - and got a telling off from the ref!
Reid was rightly
dropped after his poor showing against Plymouth and
Adam Hinshelwood
came in to play an impressive role alongside Nicolas
in the middle. He
chased and harried all over the park, and could be
rightly chuffed with
his performance. With a little bit more composure
in the opening
seconds of the game, he might have scored too.
Jarrett had another
good game on the left wing, but they obviously
don't think he's fit
because, once again, they took him off. This time
only 7 mins into the
2nd half.
After Cullip's soft
header fell to Wright to volley home Coventry's
goal, which was
against the run of play, Kuipers made 2 outstanding
saves to keep the
deficit down to 1.
It'll be interesting
to see if Roberts comes straight back in away to
Wigan.
I'm sure Knight will
go straight back in, but I wonder whether it'll be
Molango or Robinson
who gives way. On the strength of Saturday's game,
I'd keep Robinson
in. I know that gives us two small strikers, but if
we can play it to
their feet, we could be in business.
