WEBMASTERS REPORT: BRIGHTON 1-3 CREWE

We have this report from the game:

It was another disappointing loss for us today, against a 'right and ready' Crewe. It wasn't helped that Virgo has to miss the match due to a late injury picked up during a training session before the game. McGhee said after the game "It's total frustration not having a striker to bring in but there's nothing I can do."

Crewe, who scored one goal in the first half and two in the second half, have now moved above us in the table - we are only just above the relegation zone and need some vital points during the next couple of games to steer clear!

This was Crewe's first win in five games, which takes us to our third loss in a row. Next week's game at West Ham will be tough, and will most probably result in another week without any points. As we report in our Derby report, has the bubble now burst?

Kuipers should receive a special mention - he made a number of excellent saves during the game. Without his great work the score could have been much worse. We now need to work on keeping the ball up the other end of the pitch, so if the ball does come towards Kuipers, he can control it and make one of his great saves.

Our performance at Derby was one of the worst this season, and today was not much better. The team looked as though they didn't know where they should be, or what they should be doing.

It was almost half time, when Mr Ashton managed to give Crewe the advantage, with a scoreline of 1-0.

The second half could have gone a lot better, however it was certainly the opposite - and this showed from their second goal scored by Mark Rivers after just five minutes.

The players looked as though they didn't have the confidence they needed to progress, and many of them looked tired after our now three consecutive losses. It wasn't over yet however, and another goal was to be on the cards for both teams. Dean Ashton was first up scoring his second of the game.

The game was almost coming to a close, with just under 10 minutes left when the team suddenly woke up - before we knew it Reid had scored, however Knight should have also got one but messed it up - not the first of the season!

It wasn't enough to win the game, and we need to improve our performance if we want to have a chance at staying up this season. We have had a couple of bad games, Sunderland, Derby and today not boosting anyone's confidence. 21 is as close to the bottom of the table we want to be, any further and it could be all over!

Managers Reactions (Brighton):

"It's total frustration not having a striker to bring in but there's nothing I can do.

"Considering the shackles that we're under, in not having the funds to buy a player, this is probably the most frustrated that I've felt.

"To stay up we need 50 or 51 points and if we manage that come the last day of the season it will be fine. I don't care what anyone says our performance was not totally disappointing.

"We were forced to play a different way because of Virgo's absence and Crewe exploited it. But had we scored the first goal the result would have been different."

Managers Reactions (Crewe):

"We didn't pass the ball particularly well in the first half and we have plenty to work on.

"When you target away points, Brighton is a place you want to come to and get something from, so it's pleasing we took advantage."
