Flying High
Report: (BHA 2 - 3 Derby County) |
Following
on from our Match Preview, Mark McCammon has now signed a permanent deal
to stay at Brighton until the end of the season. McGhee was impressed with
him during his loan spell over Christmas, and wanted to complete the deal.
Many fans were unsure about the deal, however McCammon was desperate to
improve his fitness, and show fans what he can do.
The
game started with both teams attacking, looking for an early goal. Mark
McCammon was one of the first on scene, however was caught offside. The
game continued, with Derby, who had to play in their black training kit
due to a clash with our own kit, coming back tough. Rasiak took the first
shot at goal for The Rams, however it went straight over the bar with
Yelldell having very little work.
The
next five minutes would see a both Leon Knight and Derby's Pablo Mills try
for goal on numerous occasions, however all shots were stopped by their
respective keeper.
Despite
having much of the possession, the 12th minute would see Derby take the
lead, with a left-footed goal by Morten Bisgaard into the bottom right of
goal. This would normally be the point of no return, however McCammon
immediately took the opportunity to show all the doubters, with a header
into the top left corner from a cross by Kerry Mayo. The chance to
continue our unbeaten run, and stop The Rams getting their fifth
consecutive away win of the season.
Adam
Virgo back in his usual position had a good game, ensuring the ball was
cleared at every opportunity, giving way for Leon Knight to have another
shot.
McCammon
continued to press forward throughout the game, determined to get another
goal and see Brighton take the lead. Derby also had their chances, and a
shot by Grzegorz Rasiak for example, was saved by David Yelldell.
The
first half was full of energy, with many members of the Brighton team all
having a shot at goal. As the game got closer to the half way mark
however, Derby seemed to become the stronger team. This resulted in a goal
by Marcus Tudgay, right-footed from the left side of the penalty area
after Yelldell came to get the ball, but made a mistake and dropped the
ball. The first half ended with Derby
having had more shots, more possession, and now looked like they had a
good chance of taking more than one point!
The
second half brought more action, and two more goals - the first from our
star McCammon on 60 minutes to once again level the scoreline, this time
at two goals each.
Only
minutes later, Ian Taylor was sent off for violent conduct, however this
was no advantage to ourselves and Derby's Marcus Tudgay got the winning
goal with 20 minutes to go.
There
were a number of chances for both sides in the final minutes of the game,
one especially could have given McCammon a hat trick when his shot was
saved by Lee Camp with less than five minutes to go.
It
would have been nice to come away with a point from this game, but it was
not all bad news. McCammon has scored two goals after signing permanently
only two days ago, and it would have been nice to be playing a team that
were not one of the best in the Championship, to boost the confidence in
the team, and continue our unbeaten run.
Looking
forward however, we have 38 points and are safely in 18th position. Our
next game is away at Cardiff...
