LATE GOAL FROM HART SECURES ALL 3 POINTS...

  Saturday, 26th February 2005 .

Flying High Report: (Brighton 1 - 0 Millwall)

A late goal from Hart secured all three points for the team, ensuring we stay well above the relegation zone. The second half was not very progressive for either team, and it looked certain the final outcome would be a draw. However, as the game came to a close, Hart got the ball just where we needed it, scoring only for the second time this season. Millwall's Mark Phillips saw red in the dying moments for a second booking.

Full Report...

We could have all saved ourselves a good soaking and severe frostbite if we'd known that all of the excitement of the game would be squeezed into the four minutes injury time at the end of the game. We could have stayed somewhere nice and warm from 3pm until 4.45 and then have taken our seats to see Gary Hart score the winning goal with just about the only shot on target in the whole game, a sending off of yet another Millwall player (they'll have trouble raising a team if that carries on) and Leon getting through with only the keeper to beat but putting his shot wide of the post. He was probably too tired by that time to do anything else. He was playing wide right midfield for a large part of the game due to the surprise inclusion of Chris McPhee who looked seriously short of match fitness but tried his best to support McCammon in his battle to show Dennis Wise what he was missing.

Big Mac ended up with an injury after putting himself about for the whole match and also got himself booked for a bit of pushing & shoving with one of his ex mates. The Millwall fans also didn't exactly give him the idea that they were pleased to see him again!

It was a match of landmarks with Harty making his 300th appearance and getting the goal and the sponsor's Man of the Match award, Kerry Mayo played his 300th league game and Chippy was playing his 200th match for us. Nice to see such loyalty from the guys!

Back to the game and the match really was as poor as mentioned before. Very little of note happened and chances were almost non-existent, save for a few long range efforts. It rained (did I mention that before?) which made the pitch skiddy and slippery and there was little decent football to watch. However, those last four minutes made up for that and it was another very welcome three points in the bag and only six away from that magic 50 target. One word of caution though, Walsall went down last year with 51 points!!

Due to a technical problem, there are no pictures available from this game. Sorry...

  Managers Comments: (Brighton)

"Millwall didn't cause us that many problems, and Leon Knight was effective on the left side of midfield.

"I was anxious to keep the shape of the side following on from our win over Sunderland.

"We're looking at getting 50 or 51 points to put us safe and although fourth from bottom would be fine we're aiming to finish higher."

  Managers Comments: (Millwall)

"We didn't want Scott to go but it was out of our hands. It was a board decision taken for financial reasons.

"It makes it very difficult and although we can now bring in two players on loan that won't be easy to do as a lot of teams don't want to lose players at this time.

"I was pleased with Quigley and Curtis Weston against Brighton and from now on some of our youngsters will get opportunities."
