REPORT: BRIGHTON 0 - 2 PLYMOUTH, TUE 11MAR 04
We
have this report from the game:
We
also had a number of chances, and one of the first shots of the game was from
Alexis Nicolas, currently on loan from Chelsea, but this was blocked by Steve
Adams. After this attempt, Plymouth saw we were looking for an early chance and
took charge of the ball. Hodges missed and Adams' shot was blocked. When
Plymouth got a free kick from a foul by Cullip, they took their chances but
Kuipers stopped the ball from going in. Cullip made an attempt to get the ball
away from Plymouth, but just ended up getting it in the top left of our own
goal, less than 10 minutes into the game. Everyone was unsure if it even went
over the line, but the referee, Hall, gave it anyway with the linesman's help in
the decision. It was now up to the team to turn the tables and get the ball into
their half - a goal before half time would boost confidence without a doubt
ready for the second half.
Plymouth
didn't give up, and continued to press forward with more shots, this time saved
comfortably by Kuipers. We made no real chances to score, with Plymouth having
the majority of the shots. Molango was caught offside just before half time, but
the first half wasn't over yet!
With
less than 2 minutes until half time officially started, a foul by Harding
resulted in him being sent off, and a penalty awarded to Plymouth. Wotton took
it, and you know the rest... The first half ended 2-0 Plymouth, with some fans
saying its really 2-0 to the officials!
The
second half started with the team ready to fight back in a move to the 3-3-3
position. Nathan Jones took the first shot, which had to be punched away by
Plymouth keeper Luke McCormick. Plymouths return a few minutes later went
straight over the bar without a second chance, with others being cleared by
Jones and Mayo, who came on in place of Paul Reid.
Molango
pushed back, but with both attempts was caught offside. We were getting closer,
and his next attempt was saved by their keeper. If we kept progressing, a
desperately needed goal to keep us in the game would be just minutes away. At
this point, Robinson was brought on in place of Jarrett, making an immediate
impact, only to be added to the list of people caught offside. Tonight wasn't to
be out night, and with the last 15 minutes fast approaching, we made no real
attempts with Plymouth taking care of the ball. Mayo and Currie were also booked
less than two minutes apart, increasing the risk of the team ending up losing
another man as Plymouth pushed ahead for another goal.
We
tried out best to get one back, but the referee was having none of it. Molango
was again caught offside and a cross from Mayo results in open play. Robinson
was also taking his chance in a last chance effort but his shot was saved. The
game ended 2-0 to Plymouth.
