FANS
REPORT: BRIGHTON 2 - 3 QPR, SAT 18 SEPT 04
We
have this report from the game:
What
a frustrating game. How many times over the years have the
Albion
put
us through the wringer?
You've
probably seen the goals on telly now and seen how our defending
was abysmal for all three goals.
Cullip
made a slip for the first; Mayo got caught for the equaliser and
all
of them were culpable for not clearing right at the death.
What
they didn't show on the box was how close QPR came on a number of
other occasions too;
Jamie Cureton in particular.
That said, a draw would have been a fair result.
We
looked very comfortably ahead at half time, but for some reason
didn't
have the nous to build on or retain the advantage into the 2nd
half.
McGhee
admitted he was culpable in not making substitutions earlier.
It's honest of him to admit that - but nonetheless frustrating that he
didn't.
We
desperately needed Chippy's steadying influence as
Hammond
and
Nicolas
seemed to be getting the run around from Kevin Gallen.
And
the earlier introduction of Albert Jarrett might have kept Marcus
Bignot a bit more occupied.
Darren
Currie improves with every game and thoroughly deserved his free
kick goal. Hopefully having got off the mark he can continue in the
same vein.
I
think it was right to drop Knight to the bench in view of his
indifferent form, and McPhee worked hard up front.
It
was the 2nd game in a row Virgs hasn't scored, so maybe it is now
time to move him back.
It
might have been better to have played him at centre back in the
absence of Guy Butters, or indeed moved Hinshelwood in there.
Anyway,
off to
Gillingham
next, and let's hope they continue to play
like
they did at the Madjeski Stadium!
