Flying High

There
have been many highs and lows in my time following the Albion but I have
to say that Saturday's match at Bramall Lane was right up there with many
of the best moments.
Mark
McGhee urged the team to carry on in the same vein as the scintillating
display at White Hart Lane and the lads did him proud. This 3-5-2 system
might not be everybody's favourite style of play, but it is certainly
effective.
It
was another superb team performance but some outstanding individual
contributions enabled us to nick the three points.
Leon
Knight is back to his best and was a major handful for Cullip and Morgan
all afternoon. His toe-poked winner from Paul Reid's immaculate
defence-splitting through ball was sublime.
Gary
Hart deserves a special mention for his determination to win the ball in
the centre circle right at the end of the first half and finding Leon
lurking out to the left. Leon could so easily have shot himself but he
spotted Chippy coming in unmarked on the right and his finish past Kenny
was calmness personified. After the slow start following his return from
knee surgery, Carpenter is also back to his influential best.
Reid
just seems to get better with every game and looks perfectly suited to the
right wing back position. Even though he looked tired in the last 15
minutes, he still had the legs to get forward to play that perfect pass
through to Knight.
Adam
Hinshelwood's performances continue to mean Danny's departure has not been
quite as detrimental as everyone thought it would, and he Virgo and
Butters once again combined well. United were off target all afternoon and
that was in no small way due to our resolute defence.
An
excellent afternoon made even better by the fact I then enjoyed a
post-match meal and a few drinks with an avid Blades fan who had travelled
up from London convinced United would turn us over!
