Club Facts
[Top]
Leicester, formed in 1884, had their
record attendance way back in 1928 when they played Tottenham in the
fifth round of the FA Cup. It was 47,298. In July 2000 they made a
record payment of £5m for Ade Akinbiyi from Wolves, the most they had
ever payed for any player. In the same year, they received £11m for
Emile Heskey from Liverpool.
The Foxes who formerly played at Filbert
Street, now play at the Walkers Stadium just across the way in Filbert
Way since August 2002. The ground cost £35m, and has a capacity of
32,500 all seated.
Away fans are in the East Corner, which
can hold around 3,000 fans.
Food & Drink
[Top]
Food inside the ground consists of the
usual hot dogs and burgers, and they also sell the Chicken Balti Pie
for a couple of your English pounds! There is no alcohol available for
traveling fans at the ground, so if you want one before the game, try
one of these.
The Counting House pub was very friendly
on our last visit and can be found in Freemans Common Road. Here you
will find both home and away fans normally in a good relaxed
atmosphere. You may find on some matches, home fans only are admitted,
buts its worth a try.
Granby Street, which is closest to the
train station (turn right when you exit) hosts a number of newer pubs,
which will all be welcoming away fans for the game. This is probably
your best best if coming from the station, as it allows a quick drink
on your way.
Leicester also has its fair share of food
available, with mostly chip shops around the ground offering a good
selection of cheap food. However, if you are coming from the M1, then
you have a much wider selection of food along the route from Junction
21. If your looking for something other than fish and chips, get it
here...

Car Directions
[Top]
It is recommended that you come along the
M1, where you can exit at Junction 21. This will take you onto the
A5460, which you should follow until just after a railway bridge which
are followed by a set of traffic lights. Turn right here into Upperton
Road, followed by another right taking you into Filbert Street where
you should be able to see the ground.
Train Information
[Top]
It takes around 3 hours to get to Luton,
and we recommend you use the journey below.
The station is in the city centre, and
will take a good 20 minutes to walk. There is normally a heavy police
presence around the stadium, and along the route you will need to take
to get to the ground. You should walk along Waterlook Way, past the
rugby ground and then along Walnut Street where you should see the
ground just off this road.
We recommend getting the train from
Brighton to London Victoria, changing to St. Pancras and then going on
to Leicester from here.
Bus, Tram & Underground
Information
[Top]
A bus is available from the city centre is
you have parked down there, or stayed over night. Catch the Number 52
from the clocktower, or the 170 from Charles Street. Ask the driver to
let you know when you go down Walnut Street, as this is where you
should get off!
Parking
[Top]
Parking for a weeknight game should be
slightly easier than one on the weekend, especially as there is lots
of street parking available. This is probably your best bet, however
if you are running a little late you can park at the rugby ground for
just £3, and then walk to the ground a couple of minutes away.
