Club Facts
[Top]
Reading formed in 1871, entering the
league not long after in 1895. Before playing at the Madejski stadium,
Reading have played at four other ground, not including the recreation
ground they started on over 100 years ago!
The Royals now play at the Madejski
Stadium, which is a 24,200 all seated stadium. The ground was opened
in 1998 after taking only 14 months to build, and this will not be our
first visit! If the club reached the Premiership, the ground would be
expanded to increase the capacity to 40,000.
This ground has been voted as having the
best disabled facilities in the league. Contact the club for more
information.
Away fans are located in the Fosters
Lager South Stand, which has space for 4,500 fans - however this is
rarely ever used to capacity.
Food & Drink
[Top]
Reading has been built with good
transport links in mind, and therefore it is not near any pubs or
restaurants. You would of course not expect to ever be more than 5
minutes from one of our famous fast food outlets, and you can find 3
on the retail park near to the ground. These include McDonalds, KFC
and a Pizza Hut if you have time.
You can find a wide selection of places
to eat and drink however in the town centre if you prefer. Otherwise
you can go into the ground where there is also a good selection, but
some items can be quite expensive and over priced.

Car Directions

Reading have built this ground so fans
can get to it easily, so travel is not as difficult as some other
grounds you will come across this season!
The ground is slightly north of the M4
J11. This where you should exit onto the A33 where the ground is
around another 5 minutes drive. Just continue to follow the road,
where the ground should appear on your left.
Train Information
[Top]
Reading station is not near the ground,
but special busses are laid on when a game is being played. The first
day of the season expect some delays as the service is brought back
into service! (See next section)
If you want to avoid going through
London, which is probably easiest, you can get the train from Brighton
to Reading changing at Gatwick.
Bus, Tram & Underground Information
[Top]
Football Special Bus
These run every 15 minutes from the
front of the ground, and can get very busy at peak times. Expect
delays and a little wait.
You could otherwise get a taxi to the
ground, which is about 3.5 miles away. It will cost up to £5.
Parking
[Top]
If you have been to Reading before, you
will know there is loads of parking available. You can probably get a
space at the ground for £4, otherwise the Compaq car park has loads of
spaces for £3 a go. It is around 10 minutes walk from the ground.
You should use one of the car parks
above, as residents do not like fans parking around the streets. If
there are no spaces left however, you could try and find a spot, but
try not to make it obvious you are going to the game!
