The main communial areas you will be using during your stay at St Patricks Hall are the shared kitchen areas, and the shared bathrooms.
Kitchens
Every 'block' has its own corridor. For example, L block will have its own kitchen on each floor, K block will have its own kitchen on each floor etc. All the ground floor kitchens also have dining areas attached. The smallest kitchens in the whole building however have to be M block, which are so tiny you couldn't have two people cooking in there at the same time!

Once you cook something, you should wash up whatever you have used, especially if it is someone elses! In most cases however this wont happen and you will come to find your pots and pans have been used without your consent, and now you want to use them they are sitting on the side going mouldy. Cleaners will remove dirty washing-up if it is not done! If people don't wash up your things after using them, simply keep them in your room instead of the kitchen. They'll soon learn when they can't cook anything!

Every kitchen also has a shared fridge but no freezers because the hall is catered. Again, it is everyones responsibility to ensure that out of date items go in the bin and that people only use what is theres - this rarely happens. Last year there was alot of fuss in M block as people kept taking others food and drink. In the end the people taking the food were disciplined, however be sure to label what belong to yours so people can't say they thought it was theirs.
Each resident will have a key to their kitchen. Last year I never found one kitchen which was kept locked (except a couple during freshers week when the fridges were full of alcohol!!). All the people on a corridor who use the kitchen should decide if they want to keep it locked or not.
Bathrooms
There are not as many bathrooms as kitchens, and each block will have a bathroom. All the bathrooms are located on the ground floor except in M block where there is no ground floor! They are kept clean and tidy, however can become extrmely messy over weekends and especially bank holidays when there is no cleaner. Although there are so many people sharing a bathroom, I have never had to wait for one to become free. The only time was when someone decided to lock them all from the outside so none of them were accessible. Once everyone realised what had happened, and that there was no way all these people could be showering for so long they were all unlocked again!

Not alot to say about the bathrooms except there are normally about 6 showers per bathroom, along with 4 toilet cubicles and 4 sinks. There is apparently a bath in H block bathroom however I never did find out! There are baths in old court bathrooms. Bathrooms are all single sex, although the girls did tend to use the guys bathrooms if they needed the toilet, simply because the mens are always unlocked, while the girls can only be opened with a key! None of the rooms at St Pats are en suite so dont feel silly about having to walk to the bathroom in your pyjamas, towel or dressing gown!
