Parking your car at St. Patrick's Hall

Hello, I wish to bring my car to reading and i have phoned up like you suggested to get them to leave an application form for when i arrive. When i got through to st.patricks they said
that they dont do that and that i will need to state a reason to why i need to
leave my car there. I dont have any major reason like 'looking after parents at
weekends', i just want to take my car with me and use it for part time work
while im down there, thats what im going to put on my form...
In your comment about the car parking you make it sound like it will be easy to
get a space and there are lots of space, whereas the lady on the phone and all
other information given by reading uni says that its very hard to get a space.
Which one is it?
Am i wasting my time trying to get a space or is it in fact rather easy to get a space and the
reading staff are trying to put students off so not so many of them apply for a
space?

Last year before term started, at least one person I knew was told not to bring their
car and therefore sold it before coming. However, loads of other people brought
their cars and got a pass when they arrived. Obviously there is not enough space
for everyone in the hall to bring a car, however there shouldnt be a problem
with finding a space. When my mates came down to visit they always got a space
in the car pack too!
If your unsure, don't bring it immediately and see how much space there is after
the first couple of weeks when everyone has moved in. If there are plenty of
spaces, have a word with one of the staff and it shouldn't be a problem to bring
your car...
Number of people to a corridor?

Just wondering how many people there are to a corridor and will therefore have to share a kitchen.

Here are some examples of the corridors:
L Block kicthen - 11 people
K Block kicthen - 12 people
M Block kitchen - 10 people
Only a couple of times did I have to wait to cook something as the kitchen was
already in use. Most times you could just go to the next nearest kitchen to cook
if you cant wait!

What address do students use when they want mail posted to themselves whilst staying st pats halls?

Any post or parcels you want to receive during your time at the hall need to be
addressed to:
Your Name (and room number is always useful)
St. Patrick’s Hall
Northcourt Avenue
Reading
RG2 7HE
All letters can be collected from the communal letter boxes outside the JCR,
while parcels will have to be collected from the Sherfield Hall office just
behind St. Pats. ID is required...
Smart Card System

Does the smart card
system work at the uni or does it only work at st patricks? Will we have to come
home for lunch if we have lessons in the morning and afternoon?

The smart card system ONLY works for food at Cafe Shamrock in St. Patrick’s hall.
You will not be able to buy food on campus with your smartcard (which is also
your University Access Card).
You do not necessarily need to come back for lunch unless you want something
cooked, as you can pick up a sandwich etc when you go out to lectures in the
morning, anytime from 8am. See the
